2011 - A Year Of My Life

Although I have always been relatively healthy, I have also been relatively unhealthy. I would eat lean ground turkey but smoke cigarettes, for example. This year, I wanted to really focus on my health. I have to say that I have come a long way but I have a long way to go.
I started the year as a smoker. I tried to get to the gym, but I was very inconsistent. My schedule was so hectic. I wasn't 100% sure what my workout routine should look like. I didn't know how to accomplish my fitness goals. Although I chose healthy foods on a regular basis, I also wouldn't always refrain from indulging in junk foods or consuming alcohol.
Over the course of the year, I quit smoking after 20 years, became a licensed personal trainer, and cut out most of the junk food in my home. I educated myself so that I could make better, healthier choices. I wanted to improve my quality of life, and I have. I believe that having a healthy life is not about going on a diet or thinking short term. That is where many people go wrong. They think that they can go back to old habits once they lose the weight they want to lose. The problem is that they usually lose weight in unhealthy ways and if you go back to old ways, you will have your old body.
You have to think about changing your lifestyle in order to change your life. It's all about making good choices everyday. For example, how do you choose to socialize? Something as simple as this can make a big difference in your health. One of the first things I started doing was choosing to take surfing lessons at 6 am on Saturday mornings rather than hang out with my friends at the bar on Friday night. Do you cook at home or eat out? I typically cook at home. However, I do like to go out to eat. When possible I check out the menu before I head somewhere so I know in advance what healthy options they have. Many restaurants have nutrition information posted online as well. I typically choose water with lemon rather than soda or alcohol. At home, I don't make it a habit of buying junk foods. If it's there, I will probably eat it. I love food that tastes good, not like cardboard, so I look up new recipes online to avoid getting bored of the same foods time and time again. I also got certified as a personal trainer. Partially because I wanted to learn how to workout properly and effectively, partially because I needed to be in a healthy work environment... (I have worked in the entertainment/ night club industry for years and I needed a change).
There are always excuses why we can't make time to take care of ourselves. It is so much easier to make unhealthy choices. We put time and effort and money into things that are not that important in the big scheme of things. Why not put time, effort, and money into the bodies that we have to spend the rest of our lives in so we can live a more productive and fulfilling life?

Impossible

‎"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing."

About Me...

I am a high motivated, self driven, over-achiever who believes there is no such thing as impossible. You can do whatever you set your mind to if you put in the hard work, sacrifice and don't let any obstacles stop you from accomplishing your goals. I was a young single mother who was told by most that I could not achieve the goals I set for myself. People always tried to tell me to be "realistic". The only reality I know is the one that I create for myself. I put myself through college and graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a BA in Psychology in 2002. I moved my family from coast to coast a few times, searching for the best place to raise my kids and wanting my kids to experience as many different environments, people, and culture as possible within my means. I went back to school in 2009 to work on my MBA and graduated in 2011 from the University of Phoenix. I also got certified through NASM as a personal trainer, and have plans to go back to school for my PhD. I have always been highly to moderately active, depending on different times in my life. My personal goals are to be in the best health possible, run a marathon, travel the world, and check off activities from my bucket list (ex: skydiving, swim with sharks, etc). I also quit smoking after 20 years in August 2011 to accomplish these goals. My professional goals are to combine my experience and education to have my own personal training business (or own my own gym), ultimately write a book, and become a motivational speaker.
